Contrary to the general impression that voters prefer fresh and young candidates, nearly two-thirds of voters prefer “experienced” hands, those who have already proven themselves in their vocation, but the electorate also prefers a leader from its local community, says a study conducted by New Delhi-based research firm Marketing and Development Research Associates (MDRA).

Methodology: An extensive nationwide study by MDRA to capture the prevailing mood of voters in most states of the country to understand voter perceptions. The sample covered 17,640 voters from 98 Lok Sabha constituencies in 19 big states. The survey was conducted in two rounds—the first one in August and the second one in December.
