New Delhi: With an aim to disseminate information on sustainable development among villagers, Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU) is planning to establish 8000 tele-knowledge centres in rural areas.
“The centres would disseminate information about the need of sustainable development to rural and under privileged regions and groups,” Prof V N Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU said here.
The aim of such centres is to make villagers understand that technologies can be harnessed for sustainable development of rural areas, said a statement from IGNOU.
Besides, the board of management of the Open University has also approved for the institution of the chair in sustainable development with M S Swaminathan, the eminent agriculture scientist.
