UPA may seek Parliament’s consensus on Lokpal

New Delhi: The UPA government may seek Parliament’s consensus over the provisions of the controversial Lokpal Bill. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has told the opposition leaders that the government is willing for a discussion on all the versions of the anti graft bill in Parliament to reach a consensus over the final draft of the bill.

Another suggestion is that all the versions including the Jan Lokpal Bill proposed by anti corruption activist Anna Hazare and team could be discussed among the leaders of all parties, who can suggest the provisions they want to be included in the final draft.

However, the UPA government is unlikely to withdraw its bill that was introduced in the Lok Sabha earlier this month, said a person familiar with the development. “The Prime Minister said he is willing to have discussions and negotiations with anyone and over anything," said the person.
