New Delhi: Though the last week of July received only 82% of its normal quota of rains, major reservoirs of the country, excepting those in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, posted excellent water storage levels.
Reservoir level in 15 of India’s biggest dams, which chip in 33% of the country’s water storage, was nearly 80% of their 10-year-average. Data from the Central Water Commission said 81 of India’s biggest reservoirs had stored water at 35% of heir capacity in the week to 30 July, up from 23 percent a week earlier and 31 percent a year ago. This bodes well for irrigation during the forthcoming rabi season and hydropower generation.
