Eighty-six constituencies will go to polls on Wednesday in the final round of the five-phase general election in which a total of 107.8 million people are eligible to cast their vote.

Prominent candidates in the fray are the Congress party’s P. Chidambaram and Mohammed Azharuddin; the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Maneka Gandhi, Varun Gandhi and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi; the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s T.R. Baalu, A. Raja, Dayanidhi Maran and M K Azhagiri; the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s Vaiko; Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee; and the Samajwadi Party’s Jayaprada.
With the national election coming to an end on Wednesday, the Election Commission of India will lift the ban on opinion and exit polls that can be broadcast after the close of the final phase.
