New Delhi: Railways have earned Rs21,447.27 crore from freight traffic during first six months (April-September) of this fiscal as compared to Rs19,537.53 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 9.77%.
The freight traffic carried by Railways during the period also showed an increase of 7.28% and stood at 369.66 million tonnes during April-September against 344.57 million tonnes during the corresponding period last fiscal, an official release said.
Subsequently, revenue from freight traffic in September was Rs3,504.25 crore against Rs3,203.12 crore in the corresponding period last year, up 9.4%.
Railways carried 60.77 million tonnes of freight traffic during the month of September alone as compared to 55.76 million tonnes of freight traffic during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 8.98%.
Of the total earnings during the month of September, Rs1,281.14 crore came from transportation of 25.65 mt of coal, followed by Rs302.97 crore from 4.05 mt of iron ore and Rs299.99 crore from 6.16 mt of cement.
Railways earned Rs230.01 crore from 2.87 mt of petroleum oil and lubricant, Rs267.34 crore from 2.97 mt of foodgrains, Rs210.68 crore from 2.01 mt of iron and steel, Rs195.40 crore from 3.23 mt of fertilizers, Rs156.92 crore from 3.34 mt of raw material for steel plants and Rs559.80 crore from 9.49 mt of other goods.
