Customs, excise tax collection up 10.6%

The total tax collection in May 2007 through customs and excise duties was Rs17,573 crore, up 10.6% over the same period last year. The tax collection through excise duties during the period was Rs9,175 crore, up 2.7% against last year. Customs duties registered a quicker pace of growth on-year at 20.8% to register Rs8,398 crore. The tax collections through excise and customs duties in the first two months of 2007-08 were Rs31,467 crore, higher on-year by 14.3%.
