Three years of survival

With less than two years to go for general elections in 2014, the ruling Congress party and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition it leads have lost their momentum.

On the third anniversary of the UPA’s second term, the government has little to celebrate as a series of political setbacks and pressure from allies have delayed implementation of several economic reform proposals.
