Cyclone floods India, Bangladesh; kills 140
Kolkata: Cyclone Aila lashed low-lying areas in India and Bangladesh, destroying thousands of homes and killing at least 140 before it began to ease on Tuesday. At least 64 people were killed in West Bengal and 2.23 million people were affected, West Bengal chief secretary Asok M. Chakrabarti said.
Storm surges hit coastal areas in Bangladesh, killing at least 81 people, according to the food and disaster management ministry in Dhaka.
