New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a first investigation report in the Uri terror case on Tuesday, said a senior official of the agency. A six-member team has already reached Uri to collect evidence, said a senior NIA official.

The NIA, which had taken on the probe of the case on Monday, will collect the blood samples and finger prints of the four killed terrorists in Uri.

The army will hand over to NIA all items recovered from the slain militants, which include Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and weapons.

On Sunday, four militants stormed an Indian Army battalion headquarters in Uri in northern Jammu and Kashmir, close to line of control, killing 18 soldiers and injuring another 18.

Preliminary investigations carried out by the army suggest that the militants belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammad, a Pakistan-based Islamist terror organisation.

“All four killed were foreign terrorists and had some items with them which had Pakistani markings. Initial reports indicate that the slain terrorists belong to Jaish-e-Mohammed Tanzeem (militant group). Four AK-47 rifles and four under-barrel grenade launchers along with a large number of other war-like stores were recovered from them," Indian Army’s director general of military operations (DGMO) Lt Gen. Ranbir Singh said on Sunday in New Delhi.

The Press Trust of India reports, quoting sources, that while one GPS was damaged due to the fire, the other was being examined with the help of technical experts to ascertain the route taken by the terrorists and whether any kind of help was extended to the militants by any locals in the locality, which is barely a few kilometres from the line of control between India and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Union home minister Rajnath Singh again reviewed the security situation on Tuesday in Jammu & Kashmir with top officials, including national security advisor Ajit Doval and foreign secretary S. Jaishankar.

Union home sectary Rajiv Mehershi, too, is in Srinagar to assess the ground situation in Kashmir where he will hold a security review meeting which will be attended by top officials from security forces, police and intelligence agencies.
