Interview not same as qualifying exam: SC
New Delhi: An interview cannot be considered a qualifying examination for the purpose of promoting an employee as they carry different meanings, the Supreme Court has said.
“In the absence of any specific provision prescribing interview as the means of ascertainment of fitness for promotion, ‘interview’ cannot generally be considered to be a qualifying examination nor can it take the place of a qualifying examination," a bench of Justices H.K. Sema and R.V. Raveendran said while dismissing an appeal filed by the Diploma Engineers Sangh in Uttar Pradesh. The engineers had filed the appeal against a judgement of the Allahabad high court that quashed a circular issued by the state government to exempt diploma holders from undergoing the qualifying examination for promotion as assistant engineers.
