New Delhi: Gurjars in Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and here today protested police action against their community in Rajasthan by blocking roads and burning effigies of Vasundhara Raje across these four states.

A large number of Gurjars staged protests and burnt effigies of Raje at Yamunanagar in Haryana and Garh Shankar in Punjab in support of their brethren in the neighbouring state.

Protesters in both the states demanded the dismissal of the Rajasthan Government and a compensation of 15 lakh for each of those killed in police firing.

In Madhya Pradesh, protest rallies were held and roads were blocked in Neemuch, Morena, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Gwalior and other districts as Gurjars demanded Scheduled Tribe status as well as immediate compensation to families of those killed in police firing in Rajasthan.

Security was tightened at various places, particularly in the Gurjar-dominated Chambal belt, in a bid to prevent any untoward incident during the protests, police said.

A call was also given for Morena bandh tomorrow by the Gurjar Vikas Sangathan as members of the community blocked roads in areas bordering Rajasthan, state president Virendra Singh Harsana said.

The protesters also attempted to obstruct the movement of trains at some places in Morena and set fire to a police checkpost in an area close to Rajasthan border, sources said.

In Gwalior, protesters, under the aegis of Gurjar Mahasabha and All India Gurjar Vikas Sanghathan, blocked various roads, including the Jhansi road and the Gwalior-Etawaha Highway.

However, District Collector Rakesh Srivastav said that no untoward incident was reported.
