Nitish says legal action should be taken against Varun

New Delhi: Bihar CM and key NDA ally Nitish Kumar on Wednesday said legal action should be taken against Varun Gandhi for his hate speech after the Allahabad High Court dismissed BJP candidate’s petition seeking quashing of an FIR filed against him in this connection.

“As a political worker and a resident, this is my clear opinion that legal action should be taken against him (Gandhi). I feel he cannot escape the legal action in fact," Kumar said here when asked to comment on the court’s order.

“If any body who is in politics and in public life...makes such statements, there is a law and action should be taken according to it. Action as per law should take place on such people," Kumar said.

The JD(U) leader said he and his party have already condemned the statement of Gandhi as such statements ought to be condemned.

Asked whether he would request his alliance partner BJP to drop Varun as a candidate from Pilibhit in wake of the court order, he said every political party is free to take its own decision.

“We are not advisor to any other political party to give them any such suggestion on whether to allow any body to contest or not," Kumar added.
