According to the latest available data from the labour bureau, an autonomous body under the Union labour ministry, West Bengal accounted for the highest number of labour disputes, such as strikes and lock-outs, in 2010. The state experienced 157 disputes, or 42.32% of the total number of industrial disputes in the country, in that year. Tamil Nadu was second, reporting 87 of the 371 industrial disputes in 2010. Gujarat was a distant third with 22 cases.
