Karti Chidambaram, the son of finance minister P. Chidambaram, is the Congress candidate from Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu—a constituency his father represents in the outgoing Lok Sabha. This is Karti Chidambaram’s first election.
Data from the Registrar of Companies shows that the Chidambaram family controls several plantation companies, including Kwaliteit Floritech Pvt. Ltd, Kaimakadoo Estate Pvt. Ltd, Karpagambal Estate Pvt. Ltd, Kapaleeswarar Estate Pvt. Ltd and Karpagavalli Estate Pvt. Ltd.
In response to emailed queries, Karti Chidambaram’s office said the family has had interests in these companies for more than 55 years. He also has interests in the Indian Tennis Players Association, a Section 25 company, which, his office said, “exists for the benefit of the public and cannot declare dividend or distribute the profits/assets of the company in any manner to its promoters".
Karti Chidambaram also has interests in Chess Global Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd, which is a 12-year-old consulting company that is “mainly engaged in healthcare consulting", his office said.
