If I were the finance minister I would do three things for the hospitality industry:
One, improve employability of graduates passing out of hotel management institutes. Industry-exposed faculty must be employed. Revisit the syllabus, modernize teaching techniques and also make the teaching broad-based so that these graduates can find jobs immediately on campus, into all the aspects of services sector.
Two, revisit the approvals, regulatory measures, statutory guidelines for the entire industry. You can bring in pragmatic modernized version of segmented rules and approvals for the budget category so that it boosts infrastructure development in the industry.
Three, tourism development in India. Build capacity, revamp the culture, and bring in a tourism culture in the host community to increase our share of global tourism.
