Meera Sanyal: The former chairperson and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Indian unit of Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc (RBS) is fighting for election from the Mumbai South constituency on an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket. She contested the same seat in 2009 as an independent candidate but lost.

Along with her husband Ashish Jiten Sanyal, she controls two companies—AMP Retail Pvt. Ltd and Zanadine Properties Pvt. Ltd. They both are also directors on the board of Liberals India For Good Governance, a non-governmental organization.

Sanyal confirmed these details in response to an e-mailed query, but did not specify the nature of business done by these companies.

Over the next month and a half, while voters elect a new government for India, Mint will profile the business interests of prominent politicians using data from the corporate affairs ministry’s database.
