Mahabal Mishra, the Congress member of Parliament representing West Delhi. is seeking re-election from the same seat. While Mishra’s sons Vinay Kumar Mishra and Pankaj Mishra hold stakes in two companies in the footwear business, Asia Shoes Pvt. Ltd and Graphic Footwear Pvt. Ltd, he himself holds a majority stake in U&M Overseas Pvt. Ltd along with his wife Urmila Mishra and sons. Mishra confirmed over the phone that his family has been running these companies in Delhi since the 1980s, but did not go into details of the exact nature of these businesses. He promised to send responses to an emailed query, but had not done so at the time of going to print. Mishra’s brother Hira Prasad Mishra, along with his sons Abhay Kumar Mishra and Prabhay Kumar Mishra, controls companies in the real estate, trading and education space, but neither Mahabal Mishra nor his wife or sons have any direct stakes in these companies. Vinay is, however, a director on the board of one of these companies—Diamond Propmart Pvt. Ltd.
