Royal Orchid Hotels chairman C.K. Baljee says Getting India Back on Track: An Action Agenda for Reform is a book that has truly inspired him
C.K. Baljee, chairman and managing director of hospitality chain Royal Orchid Hotels, says Getting India Back on Track: An Action Agenda for Reform is a book that has truly inspired him. The book, edited by Bibek Debroy, Ashley J. Tellis and Reece Trevor, talks about the problems faced by the Indian economy and the challenges ahead.
“The book although talks about India’s economic condition, policy reforms, etc., it touches upon important topics like expanding skill development education in different sectors, modernizing transport infrastructure and reforms that are needed to put India back on the track," says Baljee.
He points out that the book isn’t about highlighting where India has fallen short, but about offering solutions for those very real infrastructural problems the country is facing today. The book is a collection of essays from prominent Indian academics, compiled by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a US-based think tank, covering topics such as food distribution, job creation, privatization and corruption.
“I look to such inspiring books that help with solutions and does not only state problems. The book creates a very positive feeling; it brings in people from different walks of life to share their experiences on how they learnt to face challenges head-on so they could carry on with their journey," he adds.
Baljee observes that only policymakers can return the country to a path of sustained economic growth. “‘Never give up’ has always been the motto in life for me, and these write-ups always reinstate and reaffirm that belief," he says.
