First Look: Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro
Hot on the heels of the Zenfone Zoom S comes another dual camera smartphone called the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro from Asus. While the former was about dual cameras on the back, the latter offers dual cameras on the front. It is priced at Rs 23,999 and will be available on Flipkart.com from 20 September onwards.
Dual front cameras
The phone’s calling card is the dual 12-megapixel cameras where one camera is powered by the same Sony IMX 362 sensor which was used in the back camera in Zenfone Zoom S (Rs 26,999). It has an aperture of f/1.2 and supports 4K recording. The second front camera has a 120-degree wide angle lens. It is hard to find so many features under one roof.
Metal body, light form-factor
The Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro has a full metal exterior with chamfered edges and flat back design. The speaker, micro USB and 3.5mm jack are clubbed together at the base. The finger print sensor is integrated with the home button on the front. It is a non-clickable button, like the OnePlus 5 (Rs 32,999). It is surprisingly light for a 5.5-inch screen smartphone and weighs just 147g. it comes in three unique colours options such as deepsea black, rouge red and sunlight gold colour.
The 5.5-inch AMOLED screen has a resolution of 1,920x1,080p with 2.5d Gorilla glass. Like all Asus smartphones, it allows users to tinker with colours to make the screen look richer during video playback and games.
Powered by Android and Qualcomm
Driving the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor paired with 4GB RAM. It has a powerful and battery efficient processor and has been seen in Asus Zenfone Zoom S and Xiaomi Mi A1 (Rs 14,999). It offers 64GB internal storage, accepts microSD cards of up to 2TB and gives 100GB free cloud storage for a year. It runs Android 7.1.1 with Zen UI 4.0. It is a feature rich UI but is quite complicated to use in comparison to the Oxygen OS of OnePlus 5 or Vivo’s FunTouch OS.
The Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is a very capable smartphone but the feature that really stands out is the dual front cameras. That puts it against the likes of Gionee A1 Plus (Rs 26,450) and the Vivo V5 Plus (Rs 27,980). Both offers dual front cameras with flash support. The V5 Plus offers a 5.5-inch Full HD screen with more rugged Gorilla Glass 5 and is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. The Gionee smartphone has a bigger 6-inch Full HD screen and runs on MediaTek’s Helio P20 processor, but it is quite bulky, tipping the scales at 227g.
