Reliance Jio allows individuals, corporates to ‘register interest’ for JioPhone
New Delhi: The much-awaited Reliance JioPhone will go on sale later this month, but individuals and corporates can now register their interest in buying the one-of-its-kind 4G-capable feature phone. Reliance Jio is now accepting “register interest” details on its website, where you need to share your name, email address, phone number and PIN code.
As an individual, all you need to do at the moment is head to jio.com and click on the “keep me posted” button on the banner for the JioPhone on the website’s home page. Once you fill in the details, you will get a confirmation from Reliance Jio, stating that it has received your details. It is expected that the moment stocks are available in your area, Reliance Jio will get in touch with you to facilitate the sale.
For corporates registering their interest in buying a JioPhone, the process is a bit different. Apart from the usual contact details such as name, email ID and mobile number, you will also be required to share the PAN (permanent account number) or the GSTN (goods and services tax network) number to register your intention to buy the 4G feature phone for your organization. You will also need to specify how many devices you’ll be buying—the options are 1-5, 6-25, 25-50 and more than 50. You can also register your interest in buying the JioFi 4G internet device too, with the same details.
It is expected that the Reliance JioPhone will be made available to some consumers for beta testing from 15 August, though how they will select this beta-test group of users is not clear yet. However, everyone will be able to buy the phone from 24 August. While the JioPhone technically costs nothing, you will need to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs1,500 at the time of booking the phone. The security deposit is to ensure that no one misuses the offer and hoards phones. After 36 months, a JioPhone user will be eligible for a full refund of the security deposit.
There are specific tariff plans for the JioPhone feature phone. There is a recharge of Rs153 per month that provides unlimited calls and bundles unlimited internet use too—out of this, 500MB each day will be on 4G speeds, and any data usage beyond that will be available on reduced internet speed. The JioPhone can also be connected to any TV, including the old CRT TVs, for streaming TV shows and movies from Jio’s own streaming apps. This pack will cost Rs309 a month, and will bundle unlimited calls as well as 1GB data every day at 4G data speeds.
