New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel has a message for state governments. Cut sales tax on aviation turbine fuel or lose out on connectivity. He said that the government is trying to bring uniformity on taxes on aviation turbine fuel or ATF. The states have not responded till now and even the 6th empowered committee meeting of State Finance Ministers held recently did not take up the issue of ATF prices. Patel also said that he favoured airports decreasing their landing and parking charges for aircraft as a ”form of relief” to the loss-making aviation industry. The industry clocked losses of Rs4,000 crore in 2007-08. This year losses are estimated to double.
