It’s close to 5am in one household in New Delhi. Most people would probably be thinking about coffee or the morning paper. Others however, are pulling on their shoes, grabbing their water bottles and getting ready for their morning run.

Rahul Verghese is the founder of www.runningandliving.com – a website that provides tips, information and a chance for runners to connect. His past columns for Mint, can be seen here: www.livemint.com/treadmill.htm

I asked Rahul and some other runners the simple question, “Why run?”

You may not believe me, but the answer goes beyond just “for health reasons.” Listen to a runner explain how the sport has changed his or her life, and you can’t help but feel inspired. One answer in particular still sticks in my mind – “more addictive than alcohol!”

Another story still resonates with me. Sandeep Goel, shared his personal journey about losing weight – more than 20 kilos since he started running after the birth of a baby girl (click on the video to hear Sandeep’s story).

And no matter what you think, many runners insisted that the hardest part isn’t running or getting up in the morning — it was taking the first step, and starting to run.

Like what you see? Starting this Tuesday, you’ll be able to find more videos on running here at www.livemint.com.
