Bangalore: Ruckus Wireless, a privately held wi-fi products company headquartered in California, has acquired the India development centre of Intellinet Technologies Inc. in Bangalore for an undisclosed sum.

Ruckus chief executive Selina Lo said on Friday that the company was looking for technologies to better interface wi-fi networks with the core networks of mobile carriers, and the Intellinet unit was a perfect fit. The centre has a headcount of 50.

Ruckus is a pure-play supplier of wi-fi products and solutions to both enterprise local area networks as well as mobile operators and broadband service providers.

The company had a revenue of $100 million last year.

Lo said she expected a boom in the wi-fi network market in India given the proliferation of mobile devices capable of accessing the Internet on the go, like tablets and smartphones.

The Mumbai airport and the New Delhi Airport express wi-fi deployments were executed by Ruckus Wireless, said Sudarshan Boosupalli, general manager.

Privately held Intellinet Technologies is based in Florida.
