Mumbai: Tata Chemicals Ltd, the world’s second-biggest soda-ash maker, reported a consolidated net profit of ₹ 238.12 crore for the quarter ended 31 December, compared with a loss of ₹ 15.93 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.
Net sales rose to ₹ 4,719.29 crore from ₹ 4,551.14 crore.
A Bloomberg survey of eight analysts had pegged consolidated net profit at ₹ 247.7 crore while net sales were projected at ₹ 4,821.5 crore.
The company said that during the quarter, Brunner Mond BV, a subsidiary and Kemax BV, a jointly controlled entity, ceased operations. The dissolution does not have material effect on the consolidated financial results, it added.
At 2:15pm, shares of Tata Chemicals lost 1.89% to ₹ 453.80 on the BSE, while the benchmark Sensex lost 0.14% to 28,809.89 points.
