Vodafone India CEO Marten Pieters to step down
Chief operating officer Sunil Sood will succeed Marten Pieters as Vodafone India head
New Delhi: After six years at the helm of India’s second-largest telco, Dutchman Marten Pieters will step down on 1 April as managing director and chief executive of Vodafone India Ltd.
Pieters, 61, has steered the India arm of the world’s third-largest telecom operator since February 2009. He will be succeeded by chief operating officer Sunil Sood.
“Pieters will continue to remain on the board of Vodafone India in a non-executive capacity," a statement from the company said.
“Under his leadership, Vodafone India doubled revenues, added more than 100 million customers, increased market share and launched data services used by more than 57 million customers. The longest-serving chief executive of an Indian telecommunications company, he has led Vodafone India’s participation in all spectrum auctions since 2009," the statement added.
Sood currently looks after the telco’s day-to-day operations and new business development initiatives including the launch and expansion of mobile commerce activities.
The company didn’t announce a replacement for Sood.
