New Delhi: After a gap of 10 months, the country’s second largest two-wheeler maker, Bajaj Auto, reported growth in its motorcycle segment with August sales posting a 4.09% increase at 182,441 units and announced plans to roll out a new “big product" in December.
“In August our motorcycle sales grew, mainly on robust performance by the 100cc Discover... Since October last year, the bike sales of the comapny were in the negative teritory," Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj told PTI.
The company sold about 48,000 units of its new 100cc Discover DTS-Si in August. The bike was launched in July.
Anticipating a robust demand during the festive season, the company is targeting to sell over five lakh motorcycles in the next two months, Bajaj said.
“Our bigger and sportier bikes under Pulsar range is growing very fast... In the second half of this financial year, our bike sales are likely to jump over 50%," he said, but declined to give a target for the entire year.
Bajaj said the company would roll out a new “big product" in the motorcycle segment in December.
Total two-wheeler sales during August increased by 3.63% to 1,83,051 units compared with 1,76,631 units in the same period a year ago. BAL’s exports went up by 5.71% to 75,164 units in August from 71,105 units a year ago.
Total vehicle sales of the company last month stood at 2,13,072 units compared to 2,00,955 units in the same period a year ago.
Elaborating on its sales in August, Bajaj said the company sold 65,000 units of the Discover range. The 100cc bike contributed 48,000 units, while the rest came from the 135cc Discover.
“In this month we are planning to sell about 80,000 units of Discover. Our target is to sell 60,000 units in the 100cc category and 20,000 units of the 135cc Discover," he added.
He ruled out any new product launch before the festive season, saying “we have already introduced four new products that include 150cc, 180cc and 220cc Pulsar, besides the 100cc Discover. Our next offering will be in December".
