New Delhi: GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Ltd (GSK Consumer Healthcare) on Monday appointed Anurita Chopra as area marketing lead–oral health (Indian subcontinent). Chopra will report to Manoj Kumar, GSK Consumer Healthcare’s managing director for the India subcontinent.

Chopra will succeed Charubala Sheshadri, who moves on to Nyon, Switzerland, as global marketing director for respiratory health.

Chopra joins the company from Philips India Ltd, where she was the business head for the personal care category. Prior to her stint at Philips, she worked with Nokia Oyj’s India unit, PepsiCo India Holdings Pvt. Ltd and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. She studied marketing at the SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai.

“Anurita brings with her over 16 years of rich consumer marketing and brand management experience and has an exceptional track record of business successes in each of her previous roles. I am confident that under her able leadership, our Oral Health Care category will deliver on our aggressive growth plans," Kumar said.

GSK Consumer Healthcare has been shifting its focus to over-the-counter (OTC) products such as Sensodyne toothpaste and OTC drugs such as Crocin, Otrivin and Voltaren, in India.

The company’s global CEO Andrew Witty, in an investor call last week, said low sales of its Horlicks energy drink in India had partially offset GSK Healthcare’s growth globally in the quarter to 31 March, The Economic Times reported.

Horlicks accounts for more than 50% of GSK’s sales in India; the country accounts for about 80% of global Horlicks sales.
