Mumbai: Trent Ltd, a retail chain run by the Tata group that operates Westside and Star Bazaar stores, announced on Thursday that net profit dropped 31.7% to 16.03 crore in the quarter ended 31 December from 23.48 crore in the year-ago period because of the merger with Landmark Ltd, the book chain.

Total income increased 25% to 367.66 crore for the fiscal third quarter compared with 294.25 crore a year-ago.

A Bloomberg poll of two analysts had estimated standalone net profit 19.2 crore and revenue at 371.6 crore.

The quarterly results are not comparable with the same three months a year ago, the company said, as the scheme of amalgamation of Landmark Ltd, Fiora Link Road Properties Ltd and Trexa Admc Pvt. Ltd with itself took effect from 1 April 2013, and has been given in the accounts in the March 2014 quarter.
