
Mumbai: Tata Motors Ltd, the country’s largest automaker by revenue, has commenced production of small commercial vehicles at its plant in Dharwad, Karnataka, the company said in a statement.
Launched in May 2011, the Tata Magic Iris is a four-wheel, three-four seater passenger carrier aimed at weaning customers away from autorickshaws. The Tata Ace Zip, launched in the same month, is a micro truck capable of transporting goods up to 600 kg.
Tata Motors currently produces the two models at its facility in Uttarakhand. The entire production of the two models will eventually be moved to the new unit in Dharwad, a company spokesman said.
Tata Motors invested about Rs900 crore on the new plant.
At 1:49pm, Tata Motors shares were trading at ₹ 235.10, up 6.12% on BSE, while the Sensex was at 16.402.93 points was up 2.39%.
