Bangalore: Government-owned BEML Ltd said on Friday that it would serve a defamation notice on V. K. Singh, who retired as the chief of army staff a day earlier.

“I, as chief of the company, and we as the management, feel that he has made derogatory remarks. So we have issued a defamatory notice and it will be served to the army chief today, asking him to apologize and regret", said BEML chairman and managing director V.R.S. Natarajan.

Natarajan said BEML will also consider filing a defamation suit to protect the image and prestige of the company, which has been running for the past 49 years.

BEML has not received a single letter that the Tatra vehicles is sub-standard, obsolete or over-priced, Natarajan said.
