Mumbai: ABG Shipyard Ltd, the country’s largest private ship building company, said Wednesday it got a repeat order from the defence ministry for a cadet training vessel for the Indian Navy in a contract worth about 485 crore.

The vessel will be approximately 110 meters in length and be able to carry a light helicopter, the ship maker said in a media statement.

Designed to achieve a maximum speed of 20 knots, the vessel will be used to provide basic training in activities such as disaster relief, and search and rescue operations.

ABG Shipyard has delivered more than 160 vessels worldwide. Its rival Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd is also focusing on defence orders and has a joint venture with state-run Mazagon Dock Ltd.
