New Delhi: Online marketplace Snapdeal on Tuesday said it has started six new logistics hubs across the national capital region, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

“These centres are designed as integrated facilities which will combine warehousing, quality control and transportation within one complex. They will provide one-touch facility to sellers as all processes from receipt of stocks, quality inspection, preparation for dispatch and return handling will be done for designated orders under one roof," the company said.

The six new centres are owned by Vulcan Express, a 100% owned subsidiary of Snapdeal.

The investment in infrastructure will help Snapdeal expand and strengthen its logistics network by adding 1 million sq. ft space, taking the total number of Vulcan-owned warehouses to 10.

Snapdeal last raised $200 million ( 1,334 crore) in February, in a round led by Canada’s Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Venture capital fund Iron Pillar and other investors also participated in the round.

“Super-fast deliveries are an essential part of the Snapdeal experience. The new warehouses are located in cities where demand is growing exponentially and will allow our sellers to hold inventory closer to their customers. These facilities will help us deliver even faster in a cost-effective manner to these cities and to surrounding areas," said Jayant Sood, chief customer experience officer, Snapdeal.

Snapdeal had recently announced that it now ships 80% of its orders through its fulfilment centres, known as SD+.

Sellers who stock at Snapdeal’s fulfilment centres benefit from the online retailer’s services which help manage inventory, provide expert packaging and track all orders in transit.

The announcement comes barely a couple of weeks after Amazon India opened its largest fulfilment centre in Sonipat, Haryana, a warehouse sprawled across 200,000 sq. ft with a capacity of more than 800,000 cubic ft.

Founded in 2010 by Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal as a deals site, Snapdeal is promoted by New Delhi-based Jasper Infotech Pvt. Ltd.

The company has more than 300,000 sellers and over 35 million products across 800 plus categories. It currently delivers goods to more than 6,000 cities and towns in India.
