Maruti’s sales grow 87% on a lower base
Strong demand for entry-level sedan DZire, multi-utility vehicle Ertiga and hatchback Swift boost sales
Mumbai: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the nation’s largest car maker, said October sales jumped 87% from a year earlier to 96,002 units, boosted by demand for its entry-level sedan DZire, multi-utility vehicle Ertiga and hatchback Swift.
Production was affected in October last year by a series of strikes at its Manesar plant, which produces models including Swift, DZire and SX4.
Mayank Pareek, managing executive officer of marketing and sales at Maruti Suzuki, attributed the growth in car sales to the ongoing festive season and the success of the new Alto, which was introduced last month.
“Even this year, in the first nine months, this has been our best performance," said Pareek. “This is a result of our strong preparation for the festive season. There was a lot of pent-up demand that had to be exploited during the festive season. We expect to do similar numbers even in November."
