Tata Sons hires Nirmalya Kumar to devise growth strategy
Kumar will join Tata Sons as member-group executive council reporting to chairman Cyrus Mistry from 1 August
Mumbai: Nirmalya Kumar, professor of marketing at the London Business School, will join Tata Sons as member-group executive council reporting to chairman Cyrus Mistry from 1 August, says a press release issued by the group on Wednesday.
Kumar will hold responsibility for strategy at the group level. Kumar received his B.Com from the Calcutta University, his MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and his PhD in marketing from the Northwestern University, the US. He has taught at the Harvard Business School, International Institute for Management Development (IMD, Switzerland) and the Kellogg School of Management.
He is a member of the board of governors of the London Business School and has served on the boards of several top companies, too.
Reputed to be one of the world’s leading thinkers on strategy and marketing, Kumar was included in Thinkers50 (the biannual listing of the top 50 management thinkers in the world) and received the “Global Village Award" (for the person who contributed most to the business community’s understanding of globalization and the new frontiers established by the emerging markets). Kumar has authored six books, the latest being, Brand Breakout: How Emerging Market Brands Will Go Global.
