Mumbai: To ensure an early grooming in the next generational businesses of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), the company on Saturday inducted Isha Ambani and Akash Ambani, children of billionaire owner of RIL, Mukesh Ambani, into the board of its retail and telecom businesses.

A note issued by the company late Saturday said the directors of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd and Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd have approved the appointment of both the siblings in board meetings.

Isha Ambani, a graduate from Yale University with double majors in psychology and South Asian Studies, has worked as a business analyst at McKinsey and Company.

In April, Hindustan Times had reported that Ambani’s daughter is likely to play a major role in the company’s retail operations after completing her stint at McKinsey’s New York office. Hindustan Times, like Mint, is published by HT Media Ltd.

Son Akash Ambani, who had been attending critical meetings of Reliance Jio, according to a report by The Economic Times in February, has graduated from Brown University in the US with majors in Economics.

The company note mentioned that he has been currently involved in the development of products and digital services applications for Reliance Jio.

Adil Zainulbhai, former McKinsey India chief who was appointed to the board of RIL in February, has also been appointed to the board of Reliance Retail, the company note said.
