Maruti suspends union leader for alleged assault
Union leader denies assault charges, blames company for mishandling a spat that took place in the plant on Saturday
Mumbai: India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Tuesday suspended a top union leader for alleged assault on a company employee.
“Kuldeep Jhanghu (general secretary of Gurgaon plant’s Maruti Udyog Kaamgar Union) slapped a company executive in the office premises and has been suspended," said a company spokesman.
Janghu denied the assault charges and blamed the company management for mishandling a spat that took place in the plant on Saturday. “They (Maruti) are making a fool out of you," Janghu said about the company’s stance.
He added that a casual worker at the plant had a verbal spat with one executive following which Janghu took up the issue with plant authorities.
