Mumbai: Arundhati Bhattacharya has been appointed as managing director (MD) and chief financial officer (CFO) of the country’s largest lender, State Bank of India (SBI), succeeding Diwakar Gupta, whose term ended on Wednesday, according to a senior SBI official.

Bhattacharya was serving as the MD and chief executive officer of SBI Capital Markets Ltd, the investment banking arm of SBI. “Bhattacharya’s appointment is with immediate effect," the official said.

SBI currently has four managing directors. They include Hemant G. Contractor, A. Krishna Kumar and S.Vishvanathan.
