Renault introduces Lodgy MPV priced at Rs8.19 lakh

The 1.5 litre diesel-powered MPV will compete with vehicles such as Maruti Suzuki India's Ertiga and Honda Cars India's Mobilio

Renault India Pvt. Ltd on Thursday introduced its multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) Lodgy priced at Rs8.19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The 1.5 litre diesel-powered MPV will compete with vehicles such as Maruti Suzuki India Ltd’s Ertiga and Honda Cars India Ltd’s Mobilio, which are priced lower than Lodgy, and Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd’s Innova that is more expensive but sports a bigger 2.5 litre engine.

Renault India’s managing director Sumit Sawhney said the company will introduce a car below Rs4 lakh during the festive season later this year and will aim to double its sales in India in 2015.

“We have a target of achieving 5% market share by 2016-end and these two vehicles will play an important role as we move in that direction," Sawhney said.

“We are not even covering the 40% of Indian market at the moment," Sawhney said whose company sells popular sports utility vehicle Duster, and other models such as Pulse hatchback, Scala and Fluence sedan and premium SUV Koleos.

“Typically a 5% market share will cover 150,000 units of cars sold in the market and we have a gameplan to achieve that," he said.

Lodgy will come in seven variants with the top variant priced at Rs11.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
