Chrysler eyes debt restructuring

Detroit: US carmaker Chrysler is eyeing a debt restructuring to help it boost profitability, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne told reporters on the sidelines of the North American Auto Show.

“Chrysler is strong enough to get financing in the marketplace on its own," without the backing of partner Fiat, the Canadian-Italian Fiat boss said, adding that “there’s a number of options to get there."

Marchionne confirmed that Chrysler plans to launch an IPO (initial public offering) on the road to profitability.

“It is possible that if the debt load of Chrysler were to change the interest rate associated with the funding or the size of the financing were to change, obviously we’d be able to reduce the burden associated with that debt," he said, adding: “we could be profitable."
