Consumer goods company Procter and Gamble (P&G) India Wednesday said Madhusudan Gopalan will take over as its new chief executive officer and managing director from 1 April.

Current CEO Al Rajwani will retire after 37 years with the company at the end of the financial year, P&G India said in a statement.

Gopalan has been with the company for over 18 years, working across geographies like India, the US and countries in the Asean region. He is currently heading the company’s Indonesia business.

“During Al’s tenure, over the last three years, the P&G business in India underwent a portfolio transformation that saw the company go from losing money to delivering triple digit-profit in a couple of years. In the first half of the company’s financial year 17-18 ending December ’17, P&G has delivered double-digit sales growth with majority of the business growing share," a P&G spokesperson said in the statement.
