Mumbai:, an online mobile phone recharging service, announced on Tuesday that it has purchased Preburn Pvt. Ltd, a start-up that aims to distribute applications through mobile retail stores.

“We have acquired Preburn and we will soon be launching the product," Alok Goel, chief executive officer, FreeCharge, said by email.

FreeCharge gives users discount coupons when they recharge their phones using its website. These coupons can be redeemed at various retail outlets.

“We started out four months back. We were looking for investment, access to contacts and industry expertise to grow and launch the product. As a potential investor in our company, (FreeCharge founder) Kunal Shah suggested the acquisition, which we thought was a good deal," Mohit Mittal, co-founder of Preburn, said over the phone.

Kunal Shah of Accelyst Solutions Pvt. Ltd started FreeCharge in 2011. The company raised 20 crore from Sequoia Capital in 2011. FreeCharge was recently in the news for the acquisition of Tyched Web Services Pvt. Ltd, which owned and operated the social wishlist site
