A deadly profession

While 2007 may not set a record, it is close to 2006’s dubious record of 100 journalists killed in the line of duty, which was the most savage year in the history of modern media. So far this year, 91 journalists have died, with Iraq again contributing the most, according to International Press Institute’s Death Watch. India, which had no deaths, still ranks a low 120 out of 169 in the Worldwide Press Freedom Index, near the end of countries deemed “normal" for the media.
