L&T Info says special flight to bring back Japan staff
Mumbai: Software services firm L&T Infotech Ltd, a unit of engineering major Larsen & Toubro, said on Wednesday it would bring back all 185 expatriate staff and their families from Japan.
The company has contracted private Kingfisher Airlines to operate a special flight on Thursday from Tokyo’s Narita airport to Chennai in southern India to evacuate the employees for a temporary period, it said.
Workers in Japan were ordered to withdraw briefly from a stricken nuclear power plant on Wednesday after radiation levels surged, a development that suggested the crisis was spiralling out of control.
Scores of flights to Japan have been halted or rerouted, air travellers are avoiding Tokyo for fear of radiation, and on Wednesday France urged its nationals in the city either to leave Japan or head to the country’s south.
