Mumbai:Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, the telecom subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), informed the exchanges on Friday that it had received a unified licence for all 22 service areas across India which will allow it to offer all telecom services, including voice telephony, under a single licence.

By securing the unified licence, Reliance Jio has moved a step closer to offering fourth-generation (4G) broadband wireless services in India, which will also include voice calling.

It has been more than three years since Mukesh Ambani-led RIL acquired Infotel Broadband Services Pvt. Ltd, the sole pan-India winner of 4G broadband wireless spectrum in a government auction.

Reliance Jio has been working to get its strategy right in terms of the backend infrastructure, device ecosystem, and services to be offered before it rolls out services commercially, for which no date has been announced yet.

It recently got into tie-ups with younger brother Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications Ltd to share the latter’s optic fiber and telecom tower network towards this end.
