Diageo's Abanti Sankaranarayanan says the book is holistic and diverse, and captures some of the best writing on leadership
Sankaranarayanan selects Harvard Business Review’s 10 Must Reads On Leadership, a collection of articles on leadership published in 2011. “I liked it because it is holistic and diverse, and captures some of the best writing on leadership, all in one book," she says.
The book analyses the challenges in managing people and identifying what really motivates people. It also discusses how to deal with problem employees and how one can build a team that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Sankaranarayanan says the book helped her in drawing a distinction between being a leader and a manager, and in understanding the concept of “the triumph of humility and fierce resolve".
The book, she adds, helped her in developing her own leadership, “which is not about my success or getting loyal subordinates to follow me, but by leading through empowering people, inspiring them to step up and lead". By P.R. Sanjai
