Mumbai: Hero MotoCorp Ltd, India’s largest two-wheeler maker, has named Markus Braunsperger as chief technology officer (CTO), the company said in a statement on Monday.
He will be responsible for research and development.
This appointment is part of Hero’s vision to augment its technology capabilities by hiring the best talent, global alliances and state-of-the-art infrastructure, the company said.
Braunsperger comes from BMW, where he spent 25 years in various roles including research and development, production and corporate strategy. He led the research and development function for BMW motorcycles for several years and spearheaded the company’s engineering division.
“We have taken immense strides in building our in-house R&D capabilities over the past three years,” Pawan Munjal, managing director of Hero MotoCorp, said in the statement. The company has scaled up its technology know-how by hiring a team of highly skilled engineers and designers from all over the world, and used alliances with leading global technology and design firms to imbibe world class best practices and processes, he said.
Harjeet Singh, who was heading the R&D function at Hero MotoCorp for the past several years, will now head the newly created global regulatory function. In addition, he will be in-charge of project completion for Hero’s global innovation and research centre at Kukas, on the outskirts of Jaipur in Rajasthan.
Last year Hero MotoCorp appointed Markus Feichtner to lead the newly created division of engine design and development. Feichtner came from Austria-based AVL, an engine maker.
