Mumbai: Dentsu India Group, an integrated advertising agency that is part of Japan-based Dentsu Inc., has appointed Vipul Thakkar as national creative director, Dentsu Communications Pvt. Ltd.

With 19 years’ experience in the business, Thakkar joins from the Omnicom-owned DDB Mudra Group, where he was creative head, south & east, in India.

In his new role, Thakkar will be the creative leader of Dentsu Communications and will work towards strengthening the agency’s southern network and also expanding Mumbai operations. This appointment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the group’s creative calibre, according to the agency.

Thakkar has previously worked with a variety of brands from categories such as lifestyle, finance, beverages and fashion and has done stints in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Egypt. At DDB Mudra, he was responsible for working on and creating work with brands such as kitchen solutions company TTK Prestige, apparel brand Peter England and jewellery brand Joy Alukkas.

Prior to DDB Mudra, he was at Ogilvy Bengaluru, where he worked with packaged foods brands like ITC Bingo and Sunfeast Yippee, apparel brand Allen Solly, ready-to-eat foods brand MTR and Titan watches.

“This is a great opportunity to tap the potential of the South and West markets. The aim will be to leverage our strengths and help in building brands—effectively and consistently," Thakkar said on his appointment.

Dentsu India comprises four independent advertising agencies—Dentsu Communications, Dentsu Marcom, Dentsu Creative Impact and Taproot India, their media arm Dentsu Media and digital agencies Webchutney and Dentsu Digital.
