Wipro’s Azim Premji was the top gainer in March in terms of citations in both the Indian and global media. Premji rose five positions to eighth among Indian newsmakers in the global media, while moving up seven slots to 10th in the Indian media in March.

In the Indian media, former telecom minister A. Raja was the biggest loser, falling nine places to 13th among newsmakers.

The Mint Influencers Index is a monthly objective measure based on media analysis by Dow Jones Insight, which tracks these leaders, looking at the volume of media citings for each of them as a proxy for their rising or waning influence. The assumption is that visibility and share of voice is good for them and their companies.

In the case of the global media, the index is collectively a surrogate for the growing or waning interest in India.
