Apollo Tyres appoints Mathias Heimann to head European operations

Mathias, to head European operations, would lead consolidation and growth efforts

Mumbai: Apollo Tyres Ltd has appointed Mathias Heimann as president of Europe and Americas and chief executive of Apollo Vredestein BV, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

Mathias, 48, is a German with over 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and production. His career within the automotive industry has included original equipment suppliers as well as retail and service organizations for large international automobile companies in Europe and Asia, the company said.

“Mathias’ rich experience in the tyre industry in particular and in multi-cultural environments in general will be of immense value to Apollo as we consolidate our current operations in Europe and prepare for the next phase of growth which will be driven by the already announced greenfield plant in Eastern Europe," Neeraj Kanwar, vice-chairman and managing director, Apollo Tyres, said in the statement.

Mathias will be based out of the company’s European operations headquarters in Enschede, The Netherlands. “With Apollo’s investments in the manufacturing capabilities of the Enschede plant and expansion in Europe, coupled with significant investments in brands and marketing, I look forward to work with the team to rapidly expand our presence in the market and capture new opportunities," said Heimann on his appointment.

Apollo Tyres shares were closed at Rs220.25, up 1.26% on BSE on Wednesday. The benchmark Sensex was closed up 0.80% at 26,787.23.
